Expert EV Charger Installations

Electric Vehicle Charger Installations

Cremorne's housing mix runs from freestanding homes in the quieter streets off Military Road to older apartment blocks and newer developments closer to the water. If you're in a house with a garage, your EV charger install is generally quick and uncomplicated. If you're in a strata building, there's an owners corporation approval process to work through first, and we can help you understand what's needed before you commit to anything.

For freestanding Cremorne homes, we assess your switchboard capacity, plan the cleanest cable route to your garage or carport, and handle the installation in a single visit. For apartment buildings, we work with what your car park board can support and help you navigate the strata process. Either way, the finished installation is compliant, tested, and backed by our workmanship guarantee.

Note: If you're in one of Cremorne's older apartment blocks and aren't sure whether strata approval is needed or what the process involves, get in touch before you start. We'll give you a clear picture of what's required for your building.

EV Charger FAQ's

Contact Us Now

Most EV chargers are designed to be wall-mounted, and it's the most common setup when there's a garage face, carport post, fence, or external wall within easy cable reach of the parking spot. But not every property in Cremorne has a suitable wall near the parking area, and for those situations, pedestal-mounted chargers are the practical alternative.

A pedestal charger is a ground-mounted unit on a post or column, positioned wherever your vehicle parks independent of nearby structures. They're widely used in commercial car parks and work equally well for residential installs where wall mounting isn't practical. The requirements are a conduit run buried from the switchboard to the base of the pedestal, a stable foundation, and a compliant charger unit rated for outdoor freestanding installation.

For properties with open courtyard parking, off-street bays, or driveways that don't adjoin any usable wall, we'll recommend a pedestal unit as part of the complete installation. We'll advise on the right charger model and ideal placement during the site assessment based on how and where you normally park.

Evidence is building that buyers in higher-EV-adoption areas see a hardwired charger as a genuine feature, not a niche extra. Sydney's Lower North Shore, including Cremorne, has among the highest EV uptake rates in NSW, and buyers arriving at inspections here increasingly either already own an EV or have one on their near-term list.

From a property perspective, a properly installed, certified charger is a building fixture. It's documented on the compliance paperwork, demonstrable at inspection, and removes a cost and task from the buyer's to-do list before they move in. Estate agents are increasingly listing it as a feature rather than burying it in property notes.

The value contribution isn't as dramatic as a kitchen renovation, but it isn't trivial either. A quality Level 2 charger with a Certificate of Compliance typically costs $1,500 to $3,000 all in. For a buyer who values it, that's money they don't need to spend on top of the purchase. For most owners, the stronger calculation is daily convenience over years of ownership, with some recovery of that cost at exit rather than treating it purely as an investment.

Adding a second charger is common as more households end up with two EVs, and it's generally straightforward if the original installation was done with future expansion in mind.

The key question is whether your switchboard has enough remaining capacity for a second dedicated circuit. A 7.2kW charger draws 32A continuously, which is a significant circuit. When we install the first charger, we check the load headroom and note whether a second circuit would be feasible without a board upgrade. If the board already has space, adding the second circuit later is a routine job.

If you know you'll want a second charger at some point, it's worth mentioning before the first installation. We can run conduit sized for two cables during the initial job, plan the cable route to accommodate a second run, and leave the path clear for a second circuit to be added cleanly later. Doing this in advance is almost always cheaper than retrofitting separately.

For properties where switchboard capacity is already stretched, the options include a board upgrade now, a dual-outlet charger that manages load between two vehicles from one circuit, or a load-managed setup that leaves room for future expansion. We'll cover all of this during the site assessment.

Before we leave, every installation goes through a structured set of tests to confirm the charger and its circuit are performing correctly and safely.

The circuit itself is tested for insulation resistance, which confirms there are no breakdown faults in the new cabling. Earth continuity is verified to ensure the protective earthing path is sound from the board through to the charger. The RCD or RCBO protecting the circuit is tripped manually to confirm it responds within the correct time, which is the core life-safety check for any electrical installation.

The charger is then powered on and tested for correct function. We confirm it accepts a connection, that the output is within specification, and that it responds correctly to connection and disconnection events. For smart chargers, we connect the unit to your network, confirm app communication, and run through scheduling and monitoring features with you before we leave.

The final step is completing and handing over the Certificate of Compliance. This legal document confirms the work was carried out by a licensed electrician, complies with AS/NZS 3000 and any applicable manufacturer requirements, and has been properly tested. It's the record your insurer will ask for if a claim ever relates to your electrical installation.
