An EV charger on a dedicated 32A circuit draws a sustained load of around 7.2kW, which is significant compared to most household appliances. Your switchboard needs an available circuit space, a main switch rated to handle the additional load, and appropriate RCD or RCBO protection for the new circuit.
Older switchboards common in Cammeray's period homes sometimes have ceramic fuse holders rather than modern circuit breakers, limited spare capacity, or earthing arrangements that don't meet current standards. In these cases, a switchboard upgrade is recommended before adding an EV charging circuit.

No. A home EV charger runs on mains power, so if there's a grid outage the charger goes down along with the rest of your household supply. That applies regardless of the charger brand or model.
The exception is if you have a battery storage system that provides backup power to selected circuits during a grid failure. Some battery systems, including certain Powerwall configurations, can back up a dedicated EV charging circuit, though this typically reduces charging speed significantly compared to normal grid operation.
If the power goes out while your EV is on charge, the charger simply stops. When power returns, most smart chargers will resume automatically or prompt you through the app to restart. Your vehicle and charger are both designed to handle unexpected supply interruptions safely.
