Level 2 dedicated chargers (240V) are what most homeowners choose. They deliver 30–80km of range per hour depending on the charger output and vehicle, so a full charge overnight is standard. These require a dedicated circuit, correct RCD or RCBO protection, and a licensed electrician to install them properly.

Outdoor installations are completely standard and very common. The important factors are weatherproofing, IP rating, and cable protection. Any charger mounted externally needs a minimum IP54 enclosure rating to handle rain and humidity reliably. Exposed cable runs require UV-resistant conduit or appropriate sheathing wherever they're visible.

The mounting surface matters too. Brick, render, weatherboard, and timber each require different fixing approaches and sealing methods to ensure a secure, weather-tight result. If the charger is going to a detached garage or carport some distance from the main switchboard, the cable routing also needs careful planning for both compliance and appearance.
